Full Description:

The best astronomical images I could find (courtesy of the hubblesite.org) - no visible noise and sufficient resolution. The aspect ratio of the main file is altered so that it doesn't appear stretched in Beryl and there is no visible join. 4096 x 1024 N.B. Combining images of two nebulae well is a lot trickier than I imagined!

Well it took a while to open and scale down the centre image, the raw jpeg being 29566 x 14321 pixels (and 200MB compressed)!  The overlaying took a reasonable amount of effort, but wasn't too tricky.  One issue was getting the mid-fade stars to appear as vivid as they should, which meant painting a near-white/black mask over each of the problem stars.
